    Holiday Health Tips

    Published on December 13th, 2017

With the holiday season already in full swing, many people are resigned to put on a few extra pounds. But you don’t have to wait for New Year’s to start making better decisions. Instead of starting the New Year by playing catch-up, imagine how you’d feel if you had a head start.

Of course, extra pounds aren’t the only health concern around the holidays. Extra stress and sickness come with this time of year. We want you to be healthy this holiday season, so we’ve put together some tips to help you do it.

    Manage Your Stress

When did stress become synonymous with the holiday season? Whether you need to throw the perfect party or impress the in-laws, don’t let it affect your health. Make plans in advance to block out time just for yourself. Rely on friends and family to ease the burden of your commitments.

Most important is to be sure you get enough sleep. Regardless of what you feel you need to get done, it’s imperative to get to bed on time. Not only will you feel better and reduce stress, you’ll be more productive when you are working. When the holiday parties do arrive, don’t beat yourself up—stay up late and enjoy friends and family.

    Fun over Food

Too many times it seems the party revolves around what you’ll be eating. Make sure your emphasis is on enjoying the party and not just the food. It’s okay to indulge a bit and enjoy the best treats, but you shouldn’t be at the party just for food.

Make sure you’re also exercising regularly. The little bit of indulgence at dinner will be nicely mitigated by some festive dancing. Aim to exercise at least twice a week during the holidays. A quick 15-minute jog can get your heart rate up and increase productivity.

    Stay Healthy

Good sleep and adequate exercise are great ways to avoid getting sick during the holidays. But there is even more you can do. Wash your hands before meals and cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing. Getting the flu vaccine is another quick and easy way to prevent illness.
