    Holiday Foot Care

    Published on December 14th, 2016

Though the holidays may be for some rest and relaxation, your feet do experience quite a bit of wear and tear, especially in the weeks leading up to the festivities. With the combination of shopping, holiday parties, baking, and more, your feet will be exhausted throughout most of December. Fortunately, there are tips you can follow to make sure your feet are just as happy as the rest of you!

    Treat Your Feet

Part of the problem during the winter is how dry the air is. This causes your skin to be much dryer than usual, which is why you need to regularly moisturize! To avoid cracked and irritated skin, find a moisturizer that works with your skin-we even have some great options at our office. Additionally, while you are moisturizing your feet, give your feet a much-needed massage. Release tension, boost circulation, and refresh your skin with a nice foot rub after a long day of shopping!

    Smart Shoes

One of the best ways to ensure that your feet stay healthy during the holidays is by wearing properly fitted shoes. While you may not want to wear the most sensible shoes for a holiday party, make sure you wear comfortable and supportive shoes when you are shopping or cleaning your home. As for the dress shoes for a holiday party, at least have worn them before, and wear inserts to make them more comfortable.

    Exercises

If these tips still are not helping your aching feet, you may want to consider doing basic stretches to avoid cramps in your feet and toes. Simply raising, pointing, and curling your toes, along with slowly rotating your ankle can help immensely. However, if you are experiencing foot and ankle pain that has not stopped, it is time to make an appointment with Alpine Foot Specialists.
