    Common Foot Issues

    Published on August 15th, 2018

There are numerous different infections, conditions and diseases that could affect your feet. You have probably heard of some of the most common issues, but you may not know exactly what they are unless you have experienced them firsthand.  At Alpine Foot Specialists, we are able to treat any foot issue you may run into.

    Plantar Warts

One of the most common foot conditions is a plantar wart, which is mostly seen in children. Contrary to popular belief, they are not highly contagious. In order to contract a plantar wart, the other individual would have to have a small break in their skin. Plantar warts usually occur on the sole of your foot and cause slight discomfort when weight is applied.  They are treated by a podiatrist in order to prevent the spreading of the infection.

    Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails can happen on their own or may be caused by wearing shoes that don’t fit correctly, biting nails or even cutting nails incorrectly.  Make sure toenails are cut straight across and not into corners, as this allows for the edges to grow into your skin. Ingrown toenails cause pain and can often lead to infection.  Signs of an infection include redness, swelling, drainage and pain along the border of the toenail.

    Athlete’s Foot

Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection that is very common among individuals.  People who are active and sweat a lot have a greater chance of developing athlete’s foot.  Wearing wet socks or shoes is a breeding ground for athlete’s foot.

It is not normal for your anyone to experience chronic foot or ankle pain. If you notice any of the above conditions with your feet, please contact Alpine Foot Specialists to set up an appointment to evaluate the issues.
