    Traveling and Foot Health

    Published on December 20th, 2017

During the holidays, you may be traveling often, which means you may be on your feet more often than not. Proper foot care is always important, but when you are on vacation, there are some extra precautions you can take. This is particularly important when you are going to be up and about, and during the holidays, you likely will be! From the airport to during your trip, make sure to follow these tips!

    At the Airport

If you are taking a flight somewhere over the holidays, you know how busy the airport is going to be. Account for lots of standing around, and assume you won’t be able to find somewhere to sit for an extended period of time. Shoes that have arch support and are properly fitting will be essential. Since you know you will have to take your shoes off at security, try to find a pair that is easy to put on and take off. Additionally, always wear socks so you will not have to walk barefoot through security!

    Travel Time

Whether you are driving or flying, you will likely be in a sitting position for multiple hours. To avoid your feet from swelling or falling asleep, flex and point your feet here and there, and get up and walk around every hour. If driving, stop every couple of hours to get out and stretch! Once you arrive at your destination, give your feet a short massage, and change your socks. One thing you will want to make sure you travel with is a foot health first-aid kit; this can include bandages, tweezers, toenail clippers, and a topical antibiotic.

Foot health is extremely important, and can sometimes fall by the wayside during a hectic travel schedule around the holidays. However, this is where your feet can easily experience pain or contract a foot infection rather quickly. Follow these tips to enjoy the holidays as much as possible and to be proactive in your foot health!
